Steve Groman
Having always
had a passion for drumming, I took lessons with a private teacher at age
12. After a lesson or two, the instructor told my mother to save her money….I
wasn’t “doing the lessons.” Before she had a chance to get mad at me,
he went on to say that I had natural rhythm and talent and could replicate
drum patterns and decipher arrangements on my own. That was the last lesson
I took.
Within 4 years
of that first lesson, I hit the club scene with my first band, Moorcroft,
performing at such popular hot spots as The Soap Factory, etc... Pretty
exciting being only 16. Two years later, I helped form the band Design
who was produced by Richie Vetter of Blank Tapes Studios of New York.
Design played at the hottest, most well-known venues on the East Coast
like The Ritz, Hurrahs, Trax in NYC, including The Fast Lane and The Stone
Pony in New Jersey among many others. As Design’s following grew, the
band opened for an impressive array of musical talent such as Huey Lewis
and the News, Jools Holland of Squeeze, Lenny Kaye and John Waite. Again,
exciting stuff for an 18 year old. While continuing to mint my drumming
skills, I helped form, Bad Biscut. Managed by Tony BonJovi, we opened
for many Rock & Roll icons including The Ramones, BonJovi, and Joan
Jett, playing sold out arenas. I’ve also been fortunate to share my talents
with popular bands such as Sam Hill, who opened for such acts as SouthSide
Johnny, and Fuel. With the help of producer Charlton Pettus, Sam Hill
was ultimately signed by Michael Kaplan of Epic Records as Highway 9.
Most recently I provided the beat for Mars Needs Women who signed with
Warner Brothers and toured with Cheap Trick. Topping off live performances,
I’ve attended NYU for film and video.
Bad Biscut was
honored with winning MTV’s “The Highway to Fame” video contest where I
not only performed in the winning video, but produced and edited it as
well. I was also a guest on “Headbangers Ball” along with Brian Johnson
of AC/DC, to premier the video. In addition, I have worked with and been
produced by the prestigious musical talent, Tom Allom, producer of Black
Sabbath and Judas Priest. With my extensive experience, skill and talent,
I’ve acquired the discipline and professional insight to know how important
it is to continue to grow as a drummer. I continually work to fine tune
my drumming techniques as well as enhance my vocal skills. In the past
I’ve studied with vocal coach Katie Agresta in NYC. Thanks for stoppin
by and checkin out my page.
